A local sorority at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst

Founded in 1962, IGU is one of the oldest local sororities in the country.  Sisters gain leadership skills and learn how to accomplish complex tasks because there is no national organization to dictate how the house should be run.  Many alumnae have applied what they've learned at IGU and own or manage a wide variety of businesses.

Entrepreneurs in training at IGU!!

Talk about stability: IGU has outlasted many of the national sororities that were on campus in 1962. It's run solely with the support of dedicated alumnae who think it's important for students to find an anchor and safe haven on a large campus. Friendships made at IGU often last a lifetime--through thick and thin.

Iotagams are a diverse group. The sisters of Iota Gamma Upsilon are a diverse group of young women on their way to the future.  As sisters of the sorority they learn about responsibility and cooperation.  At the same time they gain independence and forge life-long friendships.  Scholarship and philanthropy are emphasized.

If you're a student at UMass and looking for a place where women are going places, consider IGU.  Our house, ideally located close to campus, is at 406 North Pleasant St.

IGU is going to be 50!  Save the Date.
May 4th to 6th 2012. We'll celebrate in Amherst.

See Sisters-Only for more details, a link to the 50th blog, and links to RSVP online.

If you're an IGU alum, make sure you're not on the missing IGUs list and if you know anyone listed please have them contact us at igu@iotagammaupsilon.com You can't receive your 50th invitation, if we don't know your address.

As part of IGU's 50th, we are selling 50/50 raffle tickets to bring our scholarship fund up to the endowment level so that it becomes self-funding.

Only 2,500 tickets are available and if they all sell, your prize will be $12,500 and couldn't we all use some extra cash? Go to www.umassalumni.com/igu to buy your tickets.

Nancy Jean (Lahteine) Palmer '79The drawing will be May 6, 2012 at the Sunday morning brunch, the last event of our 50th Anniversary Celebration weekend. Anyone can enter and you do not need to be present to win.
